The OpenCL 2.0 provisional specification has been ratified and subsequently given a public release, according to The Khronos Group. The Group also announced release of the OpenGL 4.4 specification. Expectations for the new evolution of the open, royalty-free OpenCL 2.0 standard are further simplification of cross-platform parallel programming while easily accelerating a richer range of algorithms and programming patterns. OpenCL 2.0 defines an enhanced execution model and a subset of the C11 and C++11 memory model, synchronization, and atomic operations. By releasing the spec in provisional form, developers and implementers can provide feedback before specification finalization (expected within six months). The OpenGL 4.4 spec brings the latest graphics functionality to highly advanced, widely adopted 2D and 3D graphic application programming interface (API). The backward-compatible spec enables applications to incrementally use new features while portably accessing state-of-the-art GPUs across diverse operating systems and platforms.
